The Holy Family, Mary, Joseph and the infant Jesus, the art form Intarsia dates back to the Renaissance period when artist created elaborate sculptures and scenes from many individual pieces of wood. The figure is traced on the board, and then cut into individual pieces providing each figure with detail and depth. Each piece is then carefully carved to add texture and dimension. The pieces are then finished and assembled with an epoxy. This process gives each figure a unique three dimensional appearance. The holy family was the first intarsia that I made as gifts for people in my office. Their response was so positive that I began selling my work at annual craft fairs. Now you too may daily celebrate Christ’s birth in this neutral colored piece of artistry.
